Dr. Sherly Medina-Rivera
Dr. Sherly Medina-Rivera started her career working as a special education teacher, during which time she completed a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the Universidad Ana G. Méndez. She then went on to obtain a Master’s degree and a Doctorate of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from the Universidad Albizu. Her doctoral internship in Clínica Albizu allowed her to gain experience and train in diverse evidence-based approaches for addressing trauma in children. Such approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focus Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Dr. Medina-Rivera also has knowledge and experience in treating adults suffering from trauma, grief, and health psychology, among other conditions.
Dr. Sherly Medina-Rivera has dedicated years of her preparation to promote an environment full of acceptance, safety, respect and without judgement. She strives to ensure that every patient can reach their optimal well-being. Dr. Medina-Rivera works with children, parents, and/or caregivers, focusing on treating trauma or exposure to adverse experiences including but not limited to stress, anxiety, mood disorders, behavioral disorders, ADHD and life transitions.
The variety and diversity of Dr. Medina-Rivera’s experiences have allowed her to be mindful, sensitive, and flexible in adapting, integrating, and customizing intervention plans according to the individual needs of her patients. Her passion for serving others guides her work to support others in healing and achieving general well-being.
